Two stories have emerged in the past few days that seem completely unrelated. Democrats want to ban President Trump and his supporters from ever entering the US Capitol again. And Fox News has pretty much endorsed Ron DeSantis for the Republican presidential nomination.
These aren’t unrelated stories. They actually paint a picture of how the entire system of the Establishment Democrats, the Establishment Republicans, the Media, and the Deep State – the Cabal that stole the 2020 election, if you’d like – fears the return of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement.
First, let’s look at this resolution to ban President Trump and his supporters from entering the Capitol. Named in the resolution are President Trump himself, Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, Dan Scavino, Peter Navarro, Jeffrey Clark, John Eastman, Kenneth Cheseboro, Rudy Giuliani, and a few others.
I’m kind of upset that I didn’t make the list. The FBI has interviewed me three times in the past year about my fundraising activities on behalf of Donald Trump, and I can’t even get banned from the Capitol. I should call my representative!
The resolution is sponsored by Rep. Eric “Toots” Swalwell (D-CA), who is best known for farting on camera and wrecking his first marriage by romping with a Chinese spy while he was on the House Intelligence Committee. For those who don’t remember, her name was Fang Fang, which is Mandarin for “I’m literally a Chinese spy, you moron.”
Anyway, the resolution says Trump and his colleagues must be banned forever and ever from entering the Capitol because they placed Members of Congress in “genuine peril.” Yeah. The genuine peril of almost having to listen to their constituents who were trying to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
The resolution has no chance whatsoever of passing, now that the MAGA Caucus in the House has Speaker Kevin McCarthy on a leash. But it does illustrate how terrified the Democrats are of Trump’s return.
Next, the Fox News endorsement of Ron DeSantis is a little worrisome. And not just because Brett Baier will probably call Arizona early for DeSantis in the primaries.
The station, which has now become mostly unwatchable other than Tucker Carlson, is running a one-hour infomercial about how great Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is. And he is pretty great, in many ways. But the way that DeSantis is being propped up as the second coming of Donald Trump But Without the Baggage™ is concerning.
It’s looking clearer by the day that DeSantis is going to run, and that’s too bad. I think it’s a major tactical mistake on DeSantis’s part. He’s being pushed to run for President from a lot of different angles right now, but none of those angles are an America First MAGA angle.
Case in point: One of the people who basically endorses DeSantis for 2024 in the Fox News infomercial is Jeb! Bush. Mr. Low Energy, Please Clap, himself.
It doesn’t get any more anti-MAGA than that. The same squishy, weak, Establishment GOP donor class that lined up behind Jeb! in 2016 has now lined up and endorsed Ron DeSantis for 2024. I had been hoping that DeSantis would look closely at the political fortunes of Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and learn from their mistakes in the 2016 primary.
Although both of them have redeemed themselves a bit since they tried to attack Donald Trump, neither one is considering a run in 2024. Jeb! himself has never recovered and never will. The voters have moved on.
I really hope that DeSantis doesn’t take the bait, because he could easily finish out his term as Florida Governor and then mount an unbeatable campaign in 2028, with President Trump’s full endorsement – and without tarnishing his brand. It doesn’t look like that’s going to happen, though. It looks like DeSantis is going to heed the siren call of the Cabal and try to stop Trump.
Look at this list of people who have endorsed Ron DeSantis and tell me with a straight face that this doesn’t worry you:
Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell, Paul Ryan, Karl Rove, Ben Shapiro, Ben Sasse, Meghan McCain, Joe Scarborough, John Bolton, Frank Luntz, and Jeb!
That… does not inspire confidence that Ron DeSantis will stay true to the MAGA movement if he should somehow enter the race and actually defeat Trump in the primary. It does, however, illustrate just how afraid everyone in the Cabal is of President Trump’s return.
