One of the funniest things about the 2024 election is that Joe Biden wants Donald Trump to win. Biden was so butt-hurt by his own party knifing him in the back this summer that he announced his unlikeable and incompetent vice president to replace him as the Democrat nominee.
A dockworker strike that no one is talking about in the media is set to begin on Tuesday, October 1st. Joe Biden could stop this immediately to bail Kamala Harris out, but he refuses to do so because he wants her to lose to President Trump.
The International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA) represents approximately 65,000 dockworkers at every port on the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. These are the union guys who load and unload cargo ships at every port between Maine and Texas. The US Maritime Alliance (USMX) represents all the employers in the longshore industry.
The dockworkers are hurting just like everyone else in the disastrous Biden-Harris economy. They’ve been asking for better wages and health insurance benefits for years. The USMX has refused to bargain with them. In fact, even though the workers go on strike at midnight on October 1st, the two sides haven’t even scheduled a meeting to begin labor negotiations.
The significance of what this strike is going to do to the country right before the election can’t be understated enough. This will be the first time that the ILA has staged a coast-wide strike since 1977. That strike was a catastrophe that partly cost Jimmy Carter the 1980 election to Ronald Reagan. The strike will not impact military cargo shipments or cruise ships, but it will affect everything else going in and out of the ports.
The supply of food, cars, electronics, and everything else imported into or out of the country is about to be impacted. If the strike lasts for a week, retailers in the eastern half of the US could have empty store shelves on the Black Friday holiday after Thanksgiving. If the strike lasts two weeks, the supply chain will be snarled and backlogged well into 2025. Inflation is about to surge again right before the election because of this strike.
Naturally, this will hurt all American families, right as the country is also going to be dealing with the massive devastation that was just caused by Hurricane Helene. Consider it the last parting gift from the most incompetent regime to ever run the United States. The supply chain woes that the country suffered in 2021 are likely to pale in comparison to what’s going to happen during and after this strike.
You probably remember that the Teamsters union’s leadership refused to endorse a candidate this year. The Teamster leadership knows that their members support President Donald Trump over Kamala Harris by a margin of about 70% to 30%. Yet if they endorsed Trump, like their members had wanted, the bloodthirsty Democrat Party would have likely busted the union up and destroyed it completely.
This is not a political party that forgives disloyalty. They want to destroy the US Supreme Court for issuing a bunch of rulings they disagree with, but they are constrained by the Constitution from doing that. The Teamsters don’t have any such protective forcefield around them, so they didn’t endorse anyone. The longshoremen are similarly disgusted with how their personal wealth has been destroyed under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
Here is where it gets very interesting. Joe Biden could bail Kamala Harris out right now if he wanted to. He could invoke the Taft-Hartley Act to prevent the strike. That would force the two sides into a cooling-off period of 80 days. They could then settle the labor dispute in December after the election has come and gone. That would rescue Kamala Harris from this looming catastrophe.
Joe Biden said on Sunday that he has no intention of invoking Taft-Hartley. “It’s collective bargaining,” stated Biden, reiterating his position to not step in and prevent the strike.
Why won’t he stop the strike?
Because he knows the voters won’t blame it on Donald Trump. They’ll blame Biden and, to a much larger extent because she’s the nominee now, Kamala Harris. Joe Biden is fine with that. He wants Trump to win, which is why he chose Kamala in the first place. Biden wants his legacy to be that he was the only person who ever beat Trump in an election.
