After ignoring the problem for 28 months, Republican governors from across the country have decided that maybe there’s some sort of trouble brewing at the southern border. On Tuesday, 24 GOP governors issued a joint statement pledging to help Texas secure its southern border with Mexico. As with most problems, squishy Republican leaders always decide to get involved in an issue at the exact moment when it’s too late to make a difference.
The joint statement says that the Biden administration has abdicated its duties, so Republican governors are going to step in to secure the border and keep American families safe.
Then there’s this ridiculous paragraph:
“All states have suffered from the effects of deadly illegal drugs coming across the border, and every state is a border state due to the devastating influx of drugs in our communities. Republican governors are leading the way to address the border crisis by increasing fentanyl sentencing and increasing support for law enforcement interdiction of drugs, among other measures.”
There’s not a word in the statement about stopping the invaders. It’s all about stopping the drugs. While it’s true that the drugs are bad, that’s not nearly as dangerous a problem for the country as the unvetted, fighting-aged male warriors that we’re letting into the country.
Two days after the Republican governors issued that statement, they lost a huge case in the Supreme Court. They had sued to keep Title 42 in place after it expired, as if that was going to save the country somehow.
The court ruled that the emergency that justified Title 42 (COVID) has expired, and it’s not the court’s job to reinstate the policy to address a different problem (the open border).
In the majority opinion written by Justice Neil Gorsuch, he basically said that just because our elected leaders suck doesn’t mean it’s the court’s job to implement a policy just to clean the mess up. He’s right.
There’s nothing in the statement from the Republican governors as to how they actually plan to “secure the border.” Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott has a few National Guard soldiers on the border, but all reports indicate that the troops are letting people in and directing them to the nearest Border Patrol office. They’re all getting in. What’s the point of sending more Guard troops if they’re not actually going to turn people away?
“Oh, but at least we’re keeping the drugs out! Sorry that your rent is now $15,000 a month for a studio apartment for some reason! Weird how that happened! Maybe you should eat some bugs and live in a pod!”
The sad fact is that this entire crisis could be averted in about an hour, if we had the will to do it as a nation. We just had an example of how to do it in Syria.
The Biden regime was just bragging that it had killed an Al Qaeda leader in Syria the other day. But then when the body was identified, it turned out to be a civilian goat farmer who was somebody’s grandpa.
The government kills innocent goat farmers in foreign countries all the time in drone strikes. Why not do a few strategic drone strikes on the goat farmers rushing our southern border every day? Word would get out very quickly among the invaders. “Don’t try to go in there! It’s not safe!”
If that sounds cruel to you now, just wait until this crisis has gone on for another year. You’ll be wishing that political leaders had had the will to do that, when the horde comes for you in your neighborhood, because there’s no more food in the grocery stores. Even if the Republican governors did send troops in and seal the border in Texas, that still leaves California, Arizona and New Mexico wide open, since their Democrat governors won’t lift a finger to protect Americans.
The situation in America is about to go from bad to worse, and the best idea that our Republican governors can think of is to stop the drugs while allowing all the illegals into the country.
