Joe Biden is off and running in his attempt to bring a Jimmy Carter-style malaise back to America. How are gas prices in your neighborhood, by the way? Skyrocketing? Back when Biden warned of a “dark winter” coming, we had no idea what he was rambling about. If you’re in Texas, you know what Biden meant by using the term “dark winter.” You should also know that the suffering that Texas just went through was a direct result of an emergency order that Joe Biden issued, which throttled electricity production in Texas even as children were dying in their beds from hypothermia.
In a move that should infuriate all Americans, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) was ordered by the Biden administration to limit the use of natural gas, coal and other energy sources, and instead focus on wind and solar energy – which of course were frozen solid. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared a state of emergency on February 12, which was two full days before the massive cold snap shut the power off for millions of Texans.
This isn’t speculation. It’s in writing.
After Abbott declared a state of emergency, Joe Biden ordered ERCOT to throttle energy production so that they didn’t put too much carbon in the air. Here’s the exact quote from Joe Biden’s emergency order 202-21-1, in which he forced ERCOT to shut off the power:
“To minimize adverse environmental impacts, this order limits operation of dispatched units to the times and within the parameters determined by ERCOT for reliability purposes.”
In other words, shut down the coal and natural gas production if it’s going to exceed Joe Biden’s ridiculous emissions standards. As Texans were freezing to death in their homes, Joe Biden’s weird weather cult was more worried about what temperatures are going to be like in the year 2147.
As usual, there were no heroes in the government during this event. Yes, Gov. Abbott issued an emergency declaration well before the cold snap began. But why is 30% of the Texas power grid windmill-powered to begin with? Really, Texas?
And why weren’t there any power plant managers with the courage to tell the Biden administration to sit on it and spin? “Sorry, Joe Biden, but people’s lives are at stake. So, we’re going to keep shoveling coal in the burners like we’re in a Charles Dickens novel and party like it’s 1899.”
The large cities in Texas that lost power are in the worst possible shape. There’s raw sewage in the streets from main lines that burst. People are having to boil water, because the tap water is unsafe. And they’re still finding bodies of people that froze to death several days ago.
Some of the damage that Texas went through would have happened regardless. Pipes always freeze when temperatures drop that much. But when the temperature drops and you can’t keep the power on because of adherence to the global warming cult’s doctrines – that’s a bigger problem. Natural gas power output still performed at 38% of its capacity, even after many of the lines froze in some areas. Wind and solar performed at basically 0%.
Most people know by now that the windmills the environmentalist wackos insist we must use are actually terrible for the environment. They’re ugly, they’re noisy, they kill tons of birds and they don’t work when it’s not windy. Solar panels are even worse. Most people don’t realize that solar panels die eventually. They can’t be recycled or taken to the landfill. They turn into tons of toxic waste and we have to pay Third World countries a fee just to dump them somewhere far away from America. After 70 years, no one has been able to solve the mystery of how to make solar panels “live” longer.
None of this excuses Joe Biden. Every person that froze to death in Texas last week died as a result of Joe Biden bullying state energy regulators. Texas was in a crisis and when it mattered most, Joe Biden told them to shut down the power sources that actually worked.
