Nancy Pelosi’s Jan. 6 committee has announced that it wants to hear from Fox News host Sean Hannity as the hunt continues to take down former President Donald Trump and his supporters one year after thousands of people entered the U.S. Capitol Building.
The committee has already issued subpoenas for numerous conservative leaders. In addition, the ongoing investigation has made public text messages from many private communications, including some by Hannity. Now the team wants to bring his personality into the discussion, perhaps scandalizing the entire Fox News network as it seeks to destroy conservative America.
“The Select Committee now has information in its possession, as outlined in part below, indicating that you had advance knowledge regarding President Trump’s and his legal team’s planning for January 6th,” the committee wrote to Hannity in a letter.
“It also appears that you were expressing concerns and providing advice to the President and certain White House staff regarding that planning,” it added.
Hannity has retained the legal counsel of Jay Sekulow to address the matter.
“We are evaluating the letter from the committee,” Hannity counsel Jay Sekulow said in a statement.
“We remain very concerned about the constitutional implications especially as it relates to the First Amendment. We will respond as appropriate,” he added.
Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff argued, “He knows a great deal that should be shared with the committee, that should be shared with the American people about planning before the 6th, about conversations or text messages on the 6th.” Of course, Schiff has long blasted Hannity and conservatives, so his remarks are not surprising.
However, the fact that the J6 committee wants to involve Fox News in claims that its leaders were involved in criminal activities related to the events of Jan. 6 is a new low. If anything, Fox News is becoming less conservative. It was the network that called Arizona for Biden far earlier than other networks, angering many conservatives and leading to the growth of competitors like Newsmax.
But for Pelosi and friends, you’re guilty unless you’re lefty. The committee itself is a sham. The original plan was to include 13 members with at least five Republicans. After Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy presented his recommended list of Republicans, Pelosi quickly rejected two members.
McCarthy then announced the GOP would have nothing to do with the investigation. Afterwards, Trump-hater Liz Cheney joined the team despite McCarthy’s announcement. She was later joined by anti-Trumper Adam Kinzinger. Both had previously voted for Trump’s impeachment.
The committee has since conducted a lengthy and questionable investigation into a wide range of personalities. Some have argued the main goal is to make it impossible for Trump to run for president again in 2024.
Hannity knows the scenario well and will likely give Pelosi little help for her crusade to take down conservatives. Instead, the expanding accusations continue to decrease the credibility of the committee, with the group unlikely to end with any real conclusion ahead of the midterm elections when Republicans are expected to win back the House and put Pelosi out of her role as House Speaker.
