President Donald Trump is once again cleaning up a mess that the Democrats caused. The administration has revoked the Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDLs) of more than 1,500 foreigners who were driving big rigs on American highways. This was in response to the fatal crash in Florida, in which an illegal alien from India made an illegal U-turn on the highway and killed a family of three. Harjinder Singh couldn’t speak, read, or write English, but he was somehow driving an 80,000-pound semi-truck.
Back in the 1980s, foreign truck drivers caused a ruckus here in the US. They were crashing a lot, because they were untrained and they couldn’t read road signs in English. This started happening around 1983, and public outcry eventually led to 49 CFR § 391.11(b)(2) being codified under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) in 1988.
The rule states that a truck driver must:
“Read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.”
Barack Obama decided to wreck that standard. In 2016, as he was on the way out the door, Obama quietly rewrote that rule, to loosen the restriction on foreigners obtaining CDLs. Just like everything else that Obama did, this was very bad for the country.
Because of the loosening of the English Only rule for truck drivers, and a little help from Gavin Newsom, Harjinder Singh killed three people in Florida recently. He’s not the only.
In Montana, Sarbjeet Parmar killed an American volunteer firefighter and injured two vehicles full of other passengers when he crashed the big rig he was driving. Parmar received his CDL in Washington, which is another “sanctuary” state for illegal aliens. In addition to being an illegal alien who could not read or speak English, state troopers say Parmar illegally altered his logbook and had been on the road too long.
Liberal logic: Parmar ignored our immigration laws, but surely, he will follow all the rules of the road if we give him a CDL!
Back in March of this year, Sukhjinder Singh killed a Pennsylvania man when he jackknifed his big rig on a bridge in West Virginia. The “sanctuary” state of New York issued Singh a CDL, despite the fact that he doesn’t speak any English.
If you think we’re picking on blue states for causing this problem, how about Solomun Weldekeal Araya’s crash in Texas earlier this year? Texas gave him a CDL! Araya was on a work visa from Ethiopia and clearly didn’t speak English.
Araya was driving in North Austin when he encountered fully stopped traffic on a street in a 30mph zone. Araya was driving his big rig at 63mph in a 30mph zone, although in fairness to this foreign trucker, he was asleep at the time. The only thing that eventually stopped the Amazon truck was the weight of the 17 passenger vehicles that it smashed into. Araya killed five people, including a 4-year-old child and a baby.
Thanks, Obama.
President Trump cannot get these foreign drivers off the roads fast enough.
Another drunk Indian who got his CDL in California was arrested in Arkansas a few days ago. Harvinder Singh (not to be confused with Harjinder Singh or Sukhjinder Singh) was so drunk that he started driving his big rig the wrong direction across the I-55 bridge leading into West Memphis.
The cops had to pull him out of the vehicle at gunpoint because he resisted arrest. He eventually blew a .15% BAC on a breathalyzer, which is nearly four times the legal limit. And why are there so many of these Singhs on the road? Did we bring entire villages of Singhs over from India to replace English-speaking American truck drivers?
The Department of Transportation under Donald Trump has returned the standard to the pre-Obama rule. More than 1,500 foreign truck drivers have had their CDLs revoked since the Florida crash, and there will be many more to come. States like Florida and Tennessee are also doing “English checks” and pulling non-proficient foreigners off the roads. It’s about time!
