The House GOP’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ is… Certainly… Big

(NEW) Donald Trump’s 3rd Day Appearance for Court Fraud Trial in New York. October 4, 2023, New York, USA: The former US President, Donald Trump arrives at the court on day three, for fraud trial in Manhattan amid tight security and busy day in Manhattan. Letitia James, New York Attorney General, accuses Donald Trump, two of his adult children, the Trump Organization of financial fraud and $250 million civil fraud trial that could see him permanently banned from doing business in New York.

President Trump’s amazing accomplishments in his second term cannot be understated. By simply firing redundant federal employees and canceling ridiculous DEI contracts, he slowed the growth of the national debt by 92% during his first 104 days in office. None of us even thought that would be possible.

Unfortunately, it looks like the GOP-controlled Congress is going to try to wait Trump’s four years out, so they can get back to the business of screwing over the American middle class.

For those who haven’t been paying attention, the House GOP under Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has only been working four-day weeks in 2025. They take off early every week, so they can have a nice three-day weekend. Oh, and they only work until noon on the days when they do work.

They interrupted that “brisk” schedule this week to unveil the “Big, Beautiful Bill” that we’ve all been anticipating. Like most Trump supporters, I was excited about this bill.

We’ve had DOGE uncovering massive amounts of government fraud, likely well over a trillion dollars by now. The Big, Beautiful Bill would surely contain massive tax cuts because of this, right? We were finally going to get relief from our crushing income tax burdens, which is a major part of the reason why we elected President Trump again.

But then, Speaker Johnson dropped a turd in the punchbowl.

You’ve probably heard by now that the bill contains Trump’s ideas for no tax on tips, overtime and no tax on Social Security. That’s true. And it would be a great thing if the GOP had actually cut the budget to provide those tax cuts. Seniors and tipped workers deserve a tax break.

Do you realize how the House “Republicans” paid for no more taxes on tips and social security?

They raised my taxes!

The bill eliminates many of the deductions that small business owners and independent contractors rely on to stay in business. This isn’t what we voted for. In fact, it’s more like the standard Joe Biden style of governance: Claim that you’re giving one group a tax cut while raising someone else’s taxes to pay for it. It’s like Biden’s student loan boondoggle all over again.

As for the DOGE cuts—none of those are in the bill.

Over a trillion dollars in fraudulent federal payments has been found, and they didn’t cut anything from the budget based on that. Instead, they’re going to continue extracting the same amount of taxes from the American people. The only difference, I guess, is that Republicans have decided that they’ll spend that money on their priorities instead of the Democrats’ priorities.

This isn’t what we voted for.

Remember when JD Vance promised on the campaign trail that they were going to increase the child tax credit to $5,000? The “Big, Beautiful Bill” only raises the credit to $2,500 per child—and only temporarily. It’s lower than the $5,000 that Vance promised us, and it’s nowhere near the $10,000 it would have to be raised to, in order to keep up with inflation since the 1990s.

Mike Johnson has the gall to stand there and claim that this is the largest tax cut in American history because it codifies the Trump Tax Cuts from 2017 and makes them permanent.

That’s not a tax cut. That’s just keeping our taxes at the same rate they’ve been since 2017.

I’m happy for the people who are getting a tax break in this bill. I truly am. But do any of them think it’s fair for House Republicans to raise taxes on millions of small businesses and independent contractors to pay for it? Seriously?

I’m sure Trump will talk this bill up in the meantime, just so he can keep the government open. But behind the scenes, he’s reportedly furious with Speaker Johnson’s cowardly, limp-wristed, sissy-boy failure. The administration is now in talks to extend the window to two years before any of the DOGE cuts are implemented.

Another option that’s being discussed is directly challenging the Impoundment Control Act of 1974. When you think about it, it’s ridiculous that the Chief Executive doesn’t have the authority to impound funds before the Treasury Department sends them out to corrupt government agencies. We don’t know if either of those options will work, but at least Trump is still trying.

As for Congress, they’re going back to their rigorous four-day work weeks. Oh, except for the last week in May. They’re taking an entire week off for Memorial Day.
