DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin went on Fox News yesterday and did something that no cabinet official in modern American history has had the guts to do. He looked into the camera, referenced Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s latest floor speech, and called him — direct quote — “a lying scumbag.”
On live television. During the morning news block. While America was still on its first cup of coffee. Incredible.
Here’s what happened. Schumer — a man who has spent his entire career in Washington achieving absolutely nothing useful — took to the Senate floor and declared that “nobody respects” Border Patrol and ICE. His exact words: “Adding $140 billion to an agency that nobody — 2 groups, Border Patrol and ICE, that nobody respects in this country.”
Nobody respects them? The men and women who spend their days chasing cartel smugglers through the desert, pulling fentanyl out of tractor-trailers, and rescuing trafficked children — and Chuck Schumer has the nerve to say nobody respects them?
So Bill Melugin on America’s Newsroom played the clip for Secretary Mullin. And Mullin — a former professional MMA fighter, by the way, which is relevant context — didn’t even blink. He said: “Chuck Schumer, no one respects you. The definition of a lying scumbag politician, that is you!”
No prepared statement. No walking it back thirty seconds later with some cowardly “what I meant to say” cleanup. Just a straight right hand to the jaw, live on national television.
(Somewhere in a Washington, D.C. office building, a Schumer communications staffer just threw their latte at the wall.)
Now, the pearl-clutchers in the media are already losing their minds. “A cabinet secretary can’t say that!” “This is a violation of norms!” “Where is the decorum?!”
Decorum? We’re talking about a senator who just slandered every single Border Patrol agent in America. A senator who spent four years under Biden watching the border dissolve into an open highway for cartels, traffickers, and terrorists — and did absolutely nothing about it. A senator who had security details protecting him every day while telling the rest of us that the people protecting OUR border don’t deserve respect or funding.
That’s not a situation that calls for decorum. That’s a situation that calls for exactly what Mullin said.
And that’s the thing people don’t understand about this administration. We didn’t vote for polished talking points. We didn’t vote for senators who practice their outrage faces in the mirror. We voted for people who say what normal Americans say around their dinner tables every night — the difference being that Mullin said it with a Fox News chyron underneath him.
Schumer has been pulling this stunt for decades. He stands at that Senate podium with his little reading glasses perched on the tip of his nose, looks into the cameras, and lies. He lied about Brett Kavanaugh. He lied about the border being “secure.” He lied about Trump colluding with Russia. The man lies like most people breathe — effortlessly and constantly.
But nobody in government ever calls him on it. Not like this. Sure, Republicans will issue a sternly worded press release that three people read. Maybe someone goes on a podcast and says “Schumer is being disingenuous.” Disingenuous! What a devastating word. Really cuts deep.
Mullin skipped all of that and went straight to the truth: lying scumbag.
And guess what? As of right now, nobody from the White House has walked it back. No apology tour. No “the Secretary’s comments don’t reflect the administration’s position.” Nothing. Because the administration’s position IS that Chuck Schumer is a lying scumbag. That’s not a bug in the Trump White House — it’s a feature.
The clip went absolutely nuclear online. Millions of views in the first few hours. And the comments are exactly what you’d expect: “Finally, someone said it.” “This is why we voted for Trump.” “Can Mullin be president after Trump?”
We’ve spent years watching politicians wrap their insults in so many layers of diplomatic language that nobody even knows what they’re actually saying. “My distinguished colleague from New York, with all due respect, has perhaps overstated the case regarding…” Shut up. Everyone shut up. Mullin showed how it’s done.
Chuck Schumer insulted every Border Patrol agent and ICE officer in America — people who risk their lives so that Schumer can sleep safely in his Georgetown townhouse. And the DHS Secretary, the guy who actually runs those agencies, called him what he is.
We’re supposed to be outraged by that? We’re supposed to demand an apology?
Nah. We’re supposed to send Mullin a thank-you card and ask him to do it again next week.
