The Feds Just Kicked Down the Door on LA’s Race-Based School Program — And the Teachers’ Union Is Having a Meltdown

While every liberal journalist in America was busy preening at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner this weekend, the Trump administration was doing something actually useful — reopening a federal civil rights investigation into the Los Angeles Unified School District for running a blatantly race-based program that allocates resources to students based on the color of their skin.

You know, the thing they told us for decades was illegal. Turns out it’s only illegal when we do it.

Here’s the deal. LAUSD launched something called the “Black Student Achievement Plan” back in 2021. Sounds noble, right? Except the program funnels money, services, and resources to students based explicitly on race. Not need. Not test scores. Not zip code. *Race.* The group Defending Education filed a complaint arguing this violates Title VI of the Civil Rights Act — the federal law that says you can’t discriminate based on race in programs receiving federal funding.

Pretty straightforward stuff. Unless you work for the Biden administration, apparently.

Because here’s the kicker — Biden’s Office for Civil Rights looked at this exact complaint back in 2024 and said, “Nah, we don’t see a problem here.” They dismissed it. A school district openly sorting kids by skin color and handing out resources accordingly, and the feds shrugged. That’s like a health inspector walking into a restaurant with rats on the counter and giving them five stars.

Well, there’s a new sheriff in town. Trump’s Education Department just sent LAUSD a letter saying they’re reopening the investigation and taking a real look at whether this program violates federal civil rights law. The Office for Civil Rights stated they’ve “decided to open the complaint for investigation” — bureaucrat-speak for “we’re actually going to do our jobs this time.”

Now, we should be clear about what’s happening here. This is the nation’s second-largest school district. Over 400,000 students. And the people running it decided that the best way to help kids succeed was to sort them into racial categories and distribute goodies accordingly. Martin Luther King Jr. is doing backflips in his grave.

The left loves to scream about “systemic racism” — well, here it is. Right here. Written into official district policy. A program that literally says: your race determines what resources you get. That’s not equity. That’s discrimination with a PR team.

And parents know it. The ones who’ve been watching this unfold — the Hispanic families, the Asian families, the white families whose kids attend LAUSD schools and mysteriously don’t qualify for the same programs — they’ve been waiting for someone in Washington to notice. Someone finally did.

This is what Trump’s education agenda looks like when nobody’s paying attention. No big rallies. No Truth Social posts. Just a letter from the Office for Civil Rights telling one of the biggest school districts in America that the free ride on race-based programming is over. While Democrats were clinking champagne glasses with reporters at the WHCD, the adults were working.

And the beautiful part? LAUSD can’t really defend this. Their whole argument boils down to: “We’re discriminating, but it’s the *good* kind of discrimination.” That defense has a shelf life, and it just expired.

The teachers’ unions will howl. The LA Times will write seventeen op-eds about how investigating racial discrimination is actually racist. Some blue-haired school board member will cry on camera. We’ve seen this movie before.

But the investigation is open. The feds are looking. And every other school district in America running a similar program just felt a cold wind blow through the building.

Parents have been fighting these race-sorting programs at school board meetings for years, getting shouted down and called bigots for suggesting that maybe — just maybe — we should help struggling kids based on whether they’re actually struggling, not based on a checkbox on a form. Now the federal government is backing them up.

That’s what a functioning government looks like. Quietly dismantling illegal programs while the cocktail party crowd isn’t looking. Keep going.
