Trump Roasts the Entire 2028 Dem Bench in One Glorious Riff — and 'Basket-Case' Platner Gets His New Nickname

President Trump took one look at the 2028 Democratic field, and did what he does best — reduced the entire roster to rubble in about thirty seconds of pure, unfiltered comedy. Speaking at a White House coal-energy initiative event on June 4, Trump went after Hunter Biden, Texas Senate nominee James Talarico, and Maine Senate nominee Graham Platner like a man swatting flies at a barbecue.

And just like that, a new Trump nickname was born. You love to see it.

The whole thing kicked off when Fox News reporter Peter Doocy asked Trump about Hunter Biden's recent social media musings about a potential 2028 presidential run. Now, most politicians would give a careful, diplomatic non-answer. Trump? He leaned into the microphone and delivered this gem: "You would think that past is something to do with winning an election, and I would say his past is not the greatest."

Understatement of the century, Mr. President. The man was convicted on federal gun charges and had a tax fraud case that made headlines for months, but sure — "not the greatest" past. We appreciate the restraint.

But Trump wasn't done. He pivoted from Hunter straight to the broader Democratic lineup, and that's when Graham Platner caught a stray that'll follow him for the rest of his political career. "If the guy from Maine can do well, I guess Hunter could do well too, 'cause the guy from Maine is a basket case," Trump said.

Basket-Case Platner. Write it down. Print the bumper stickers. It's over for this guy and he doesn't even know it yet.

Then Trump circled back to the Biden family for one final jab, referencing his November 13, 2024 Oval Office meeting with Joe Biden during the presidential transition. "He was never the sharpest guy, you do know that, right?" Trump said of the former president, with the kind of casual delivery that makes you spit out your coffee.

Here's what makes this so beautiful. The Democrats are supposed to be rebuilding after the Biden disaster. They're supposed to be fielding their best and brightest for 2028. And what do they have? Hunter Biden — a man whose laptop is a national punchline. James Talarico — a Texas Democrat who just got his clock cleaned by Ken Paxton in the Senate primary fight nobody outside Austin cared about. And Graham Platner — a Maine candidate who just earned the most devastating two-word brand in American politics.

This is what passes for a Democratic bench in 2026. Meanwhile, Trump is out here announcing coal-energy policy and roasting pretenders without breaking a sweat.

As RedState's Bob Hoge noted, the whole exchange was vintage Trump — funny, brutal, and impossible to look away from. The 2028 Democratic primary is shaping up to be the political equivalent of a clown car pulling into a ditch, and Trump just appointed himself the guy selling popcorn.

We'd say we feel bad for Basket-Case Platner, but we really don't.
