Andy Biggs won the Arizona Republican gubernatorial primary on Tuesday by a wide margin. Every single Trump-endorsed candidate on the ballot advanced. And in the 4th Congressional District, a far-left challenger to Democrat Greg Stanton got crushed so thoroughly that the Democratic Socialists of America might want to rethink their Southwest expansion strategy.
One hundred days out from the midterms, Trump's endorsement record in Arizona isn't just intact — it's spotless. President Trump carried Arizona by more than 5 points in the 2024 election. The purple state is definitely trending red.
Biggs, a former Freedom Caucus chairman and current U.S. Representative, beat fellow congressman David Schweikert for the GOP nomination, earning more than 70% of the vote. He'll face Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs in November — the same Katie Hobbs who narrowly edged out Kari Lake in 2022. The Arizona governor race is expected to be one of the most competitive of the 2026 mid-term elections.
Trump endorsed Biggs at a Phoenix rally earlier this year with characteristic restraint. "I hate to lose him from Congress," Trump said, "but he'll be a great governor."
The gubernatorial primary was the marquee race, but Trump's fingerprints were all over the rest of the ballot. In the 1st Congressional District, Jay Feely — yes, the former Arizona Cardinals kicker — won the GOP nomination and will face Democrat Amish Shah in the general. In the 5th Congressional District, former Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb locked up his primary. Trump had endorsed Lamb on Truth Social, calling him a "MAGA Warrior" and declaring, "Mark Lamb has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Congressman from Arizona's 5th Congressional District — HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!"
In the 6th District, Representative Juan Ciscomani advanced unopposed. Representatives Eli Crane, Paul Gosar, and Abe Hamadeh — all Trump-backed — sailed through without breaking a sweat.
Trump had previously endorsed both Feely and another candidate for separate races on Truth Social, calling them "Two Highly Respected America First Patriots" and adding, "JAY OR GINA WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!" The man does love his capital letters.
The Democratic Socialist wipeout in the 4th District deserves its own paragraph. When your candidate can't even mount a credible primary challenge to a mainstream Democrat in a Sun Belt district, the "revolution" might need to update its PowerPoint. The progressive wing has been trying to replicate its NYC magic in other states. Arizona voters just reminded them they are not a lover of progressive politics and policies.
The broader pattern here is worth noting. Arizona was supposed to be the state where Trump's grip loosened after the 2022 disappointments. The Hobbs win, the Lake loss — that was supposed to be the inflection point where the GOP base started shopping for something different. Instead, every candidate Trump put his name behind on Tuesday walked away with a win. The base didn't splinter. The endorsement didn't lose its weight. The playbook didn't change.
Biggs is running on a platform of cutting taxes, securing the border, and restoring law and order — a combination that plays well in a state where Maricopa County residents watch the border crisis unfold on their local news every night. Hobbs, who ran unopposed in her own primary, now has to defend a record in a political environment that looks nothing like 2022.
The midterms are a hundred days away. Trump just went undefeated in one of the most competitive states in the country. The candidates who ran away from his endorsement weren't on any of the ballots that mattered Tuesday night.
