Arizona Republican Rep. Andy Biggs said on Friday he is preparing articles of impeachment for Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his handling of the growing border crisis.
“Secretary Mayorkas is a threat to the sovereignty and security of our nation. As a result of his actions and policies, America is more in danger today than when he began serving as Secretary. He is willfully refusing to maintain operational control of the border and is encouraging aliens to enter our country illegally,” Biggs wrote in a statement on Friday.
“Under his direction, DHS is systematically releasing COVID-19 positive aliens into our communities, subjecting the American people to unnecessary and avoidable risks. Secretary Mayorkas is failing to faithfully uphold his oath of office and is presiding over a reckless abandonment of border security and immigration enforcement, at the expense of the U.S. Constitution and the security of the United States,” he added.
Biggs is right. The only addition that would have made this statement more accurate would be to include President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. From day one in office, Biden has worked to undermine former President Donald Trump’s strong border security policies to the harm of the nation.
First, Biden signed an executive action to end construction of the border wall. Taxpayers are now reportedly paying $2 billion for the wall construction supplies to be guarded.
Next, Biden signed an order to end most deportations for 100 days. Biden may have problems with counting as well, since the practice has extended beyond this time.
Plus, Biden ended the Remain in Mexico policy and restarted Obama’s catch and release policy. Both resulted in more illegal immigrants safely entering America.
Last week, more than 1,500 COVID-positive illegal immigrants showed up just in McAllen, Texas. Who knows how many more came across the southern border? Immigrants are typically given no test and cannot even be forced to stay in quarantine if they do test positive.
If you think it’s only a problem for border states, think again. McAllen’s bus station has been swamped with immigrants headed nationwide. Florida, Indiana, Massachusetts and other locations are now becoming the end destination for a growing number of Biden’s buddies, including those who are COVID-positive.
As the leader of Homeland Security, Mayorkas is the key leader to target for removal. It’s unlikely to move forward, as Democrats lead the House and Senate. However, after the 2022 midterms, maybe this could change.
Right now, even if Mayorkas was removed, the next person appointed would be under the same Biden policies. The end result would likely not be much different. Like it or not, any DHS secretary under Biden is likely to do the same.
Instead, Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott may have the better approach. He’s calling in National Guard from supporting states and arresting people at the border. He’s even working to build his own fence so illegal immigrants can be arrested under state laws.
It may only help slow the flood of illegal immigrants, but it’s at least an attempt to do what Biden won’t. We need the border secured immediately.
Good he needs to go. We need to secure our border.
