Texas Republican Rep. and former Navy SEAL Dan Crenshaw blasted President Joe Biden on Twitter, says the President is missing a rescue plan for Americans trapped in their homes in Afghanistan. The former Nacy SEAL demanded the President “do something” immediately to save American lives in Afghanistan, pointing out its been more than 5 days since this ordeal began.
On Thursday, Crenshaw tweeted, “Yesterday the SECDEF said we can’t go get US citizens, but this isn’t the full story. We certainly have the capability, but Biden has not authorized it. This must change. Biden needs to do something besides pass the buck.”
American military is currently only operating rescue flights out of the Kabul airport.
In a second post on Thursday, Crenshaw added, “Two things need to happen, and only Biden can authorize: 1. US military must be allowed to operate outside Kabul airport to get American citizens. 2. Retake Bagram airfield, thus giving us more options for evacuations. Biden created this mess and needs to take decisive action.”
Crenshaw had more advice for the president as well. He wrote, “We need more than just a vague hope that our citizens will be evacuated while Taliban control the entrances to Kabul. Biden must order the military to retake Bagram. It was Biden’s foolish troop number cap that forced DOD to abandon it. Time to fix this and get our people out.”
Another post added, “Bagram Airbase is about 30 miles from Kabul and can handle far more aircraft. It is also separated from the amassed Taliban forces in Kabul. This would give us more options for getting people out of the country. Right now, evacuees are having a hard time even getting to Kabul.”
Crenshaw is right. The paths to Kabul’s airport are now cluttered with numerous Taliban-controlled checkpoints. Even if the roads were wide open, one airport is less effective than two. The focus on “getting people out” that the congressman notes seems to be missing from Biden’s plans, and that’s if he even has a plan at all.
Biden did not speak publicly for six DAYS as Afghanistan fell to the Taliban. He was off at Camp David for his seemingly one hundredth visit in 2021 as American lives were left to die at the hands of the Taliban due to his poorly planned military departure.
Even the emergency evacuations have been mishandled. Crenshaw reported on Twitter, “State Department was in charge of civilian evacuations. They failed miserably, and continue to fail. When the dust settles it’s hard to see how Secretary Blinken should still have a job.”
He added, “State Department is radio silent. Congressional offices like mine are coordinating evacuations & delivering critical information because State Department isn’t answering the phones. There was zero preparation, and there needs to be consequences when the dust settles.”
After nearly two decades of American control of Afghanistan, Biden handed the nation back to terrorists in just seven months. This is more than a disaster. This will go down as his defining moment, and one that will reveal his true attitude toward America for years into the future.
