In 2022 the Democrats handed the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) an extra $80 billion to play with along with an army of more than 87,000 new “tax enforcement agents.” At the time they claimed that they wouldn’t dare unleash this new supercharged IRS on regular old Middle Class Americans – but as it turns out, they lied!
In an attempt to make the effort to beef up the IRS more palatable at the time, leftist outlets like CNN and NPR claimed that the new agents would ONLY be sent after “the wealthiest Americans” such as those who were earning upwards of $400K yearly.
The IRS itself claimed that the extra $80 billion in their war chest would “restore fairness in tax compliance by shifting more attention onto high-income earners, partnerships, large corporations and promoters abusing the nation’s tax laws. The effort… will center on adding more attention on wealthy, partnerships and other high earners that have seen sharp drops in audit rates for these taxpayer segments during the past decade.”
However, what they claimed they would do and what they’ve actually done have been VERY DIFFERENT.
A recent audit of the agency revealed that the vast majority (63%) of all new IRS audit inquiries have been directed at middle-income earners who made less than $200,000.
Only a minuscule number of those audits made their way to the top 1% while some 80% of the audits were digging into individuals earning less than $1 million annually.
Like the communist regimes they idolize, the Democrats and their new tax enforcement army are seeking to destroy the middle class while protecting the top 1% of wealthy Americans – who typically vote Democrat anyways.
Democrats like Joe Biden’s Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen paved the way for this by pushing the narrative that it was merely a “conspiracy theory” to suggest that the juiced up IRS would ever even consider going after middle-class Americans who are struggling just to make ends meet.
“Contrary to the misinformation from opponents of this legislation,” Yellen pledged in 2022 that “small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited.”
Of course that pledge has not exactly been maintained and with Democrat loyal IRS sending out more audits than ever before – low to middle income Americans have fallen in the crosshairs of the increasingly oppressive regime looking to squeeze every last penny out of good hard-working American people.
But it should have always been quite clear that the Democrats NEVER intended on upholding this pledge.
When Republicans proposed an amendment in 2022 to “prevent the use of additional Internal Revenue Service Funds from being used for audits of taxpayers with taxable incomes below $400,000,” the Democrats REJECTED IT!
The Wall Street Journal pointed out that the “The IRS never [actually] claimed it would decrease its middle-class audits, only that audits on higher-earners would become a majority, adding that their new agents were just supposed to go after the wealthy tax dodgers on “good faith” but the reality has been the exact opposite.
Far-left liberals have occupied the IRS and now they’re hell-bent on making sure that EVERYONE “pays their fair share” – unless of course, your name is Hunter Biden or some other powerful Democrat because then the laws simply don’t apply to you!
