A group called Audit Forward has submitted a petition to Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson, seeking a full forensic audit of the 2020 election in that state. If Benson approves the petition, Audit Forward will be allowed to start collecting signatures to see if enough voters in Michigan want the election results audited.
Benson, of course, claims that the election was clean as a whistle and it’s all a big Trump conspiracy theory to think otherwise. This process in Michigan – asking the Secretary of State if you can check her work – is sort of like asking the suspected bank robber if you can see what he’s carrying in that bulging sack with a dollar sign on it.
Republicans in the Michigan legislature have sat on their hands this whole time, refusing to follow the will of the people. A citizen petition drive in that state could force a forensic audit, if Jocelyn Benson approves the petition and allows them to start gathering signatures. But she won’t.
Benson claims that even the possibility of a forensic audit of Michigan’s 2020 election results “threatens the survival of our democracy, and our nation.”
I’ll come back to that in a second.
The petitioners are asking for an audit that would review all the ballots and all the vote tallies in every local, state and federal election in 2020 in Michigan. They’re also asking that the voter rolls be closely examined, and that Secretary of State Benson publicly release all of her official communications (emails, text messages) sent in October and November of 2020.
The petition also seeks major changes in future elections in Michigan – a series of triggers that would automatically force a full forensic audit. For example, if ballot boxes are found to have been tampered with (which happened in Michigan in 2020), if election materials are destroyed (which happened in Michigan in 2020), or if at least two poll books in a precinct don’t have matching numbers (which happened in EVERY Democrat-controlled precinct in Michigan in 2020). If any of those things happened in a future election, it would trigger an automatic audit.
But Jocelyn Benson says it will destroy our democracy and our nation if anyone checks her work. How, exactly?
So many Democrats keep repeating this talking point, but I’d really like to hear them go into specifics on this. If the results of a state are audited to ensure the integrity of an election, how exactly would that destroy democracy? Or America?! Benson should explain that to Michigan voters and speak slowly when doing so.

Rasmussen Reports has been tracking the beliefs of registered voters for all of 2021 on the question of whether they believe cheating decided the outcome of the 2020 election. Rasmussen is one of the better polling outlets in existence. Back in March and April, around half of the electorate believed the 2020 election was stolen from the rightful winner. In October, the number was up to 56%.
In December, 59% of registered Republican and Democrat voters now believe that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump. If 6 out of 10 people don’t believe the outcome of an election, your democracy has a problem.
Why do the numbers keep climbing? Because as freedom fighters continue chipping away at the narrative and keep uncovering evidence of fraud, more and more people are catching on. The evidence only points in one direction. Anytime the results are checked in any state so far (Arizona, Wisconsin, Georgia, Virginia, Maine, etc.), it does not reinforce Joe Biden’s “victory.” It adds to the pile of evidence that the 2020 election was stolen.
I think the bump in believers that Rasmussen found in December also had to do with the Thanksgiving holiday. Most Trump supporters by now, when asked if they believe “Trump’s conspiracy theory,” can give a nuanced answer to reasons why they believe 2020 was stolen. They can talk about the Arizona audit results, the fact that no court has actually agreed to hear an election case, and the nursing home proxy voting scandal in Wisconsin. We’re not a bunch of kooks and we give reasoned arguments, backed up facts and data. We’re winning the ideological battle.
59% of American voters now believe that Joe Biden is illegitimate, and that he does not have the right to govern us. That’s a far more dangerous and volatile situation for our democracy than any election audit in Michigan.

Benson knows there was fraud in the election. She knows that if an audit is done they will find how fraudulent the election truly was. She will try every way she can to keep an audit from happening, either by not allowing a petition to be circulated or dragging her feet deciding on how many signatures there need to be then to authenticate them.

Unless and until a full forensic audit is completed in every suspect situation, few will trust future election outcomes. That is the true threat to democracy, is that the plan? While me and a couple of friends were standing in line at the polls, we heard more than once, a poll worker say to someone, the voting machine says that you already voted and each time the voting party explained that they haven’t voted in years but they couldn’t let the criminal democrats win. As a person living in MI, I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to beg our legislators to look into this and do a forensic audit. I can honestly say that not one gave me a response nor do I count the ones I did get as sufficient. They were wishy-washy, without any promise of fighting for these audits nor fighting for election security in the future. I am frustrated and assume that many of them must be on the take and perhaps even afraid that their own seats would be found to be fraudulent. That, to me is proof that we MUST do an audit…not simply a desire. Corruption needs to be weeded out and ASAP!!
