The Justice Department’s Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report was 476 pages describing numerous FBI abuses and misconduct. What the mainstream media headlined was the IG’s opening summary opinion that he could not say for sure that anyone within the organization was politically biased.
“We did not find documentary or testimonial evidence that political bias or improper motivation influenced the FBI’s decision,” he concluded. That sweeping statement was solely predicated on the fact that no agent was dumb enough to outright admit or document about their hatred of President Trump.
However, during the Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Horowitz admitted that he could not get to the bottom of what motivated the FBI to spy on a President Trump’s campaign activities. Moreover, the investigation was based on the phony Steele Dossier.
Also, why didn’t the FBI include exculpatory information required by their own regulations?
The IG couldn’t answer those questions, but he moved on. No political bias there. We can’t read people’s minds, you know—unless it’s the President, of course. Schiff and Pelosi are apparently mind readers. They are positive the President meant to bribe Ukraine!
Not so fast. Attorney General Barr can read. His conclusions were that the IG report “makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions…”
What top-level leaders of the FBI under the auspices of corrupt director James Comey did was set in motion a baseless investigation that took two years and cost over $30 million. They have done irreparable harm to the Bureau and to the rule of law.
The IG’s view is that it was not his role “to second-guess discretionary judgments.” However, the choices here are that Comey and company were either totally incompetent, or they were politically motivated. The IG wouldn’t say one way or the other, but he could make sweeping and counterintuitive conclusions that all those mistakes were not politically motivated.
The mainstream media, however, is not concerned. NBC Nightly News viewers did not hear Lester Holt say anything more than “there was no political bias.” What Lester and his dilatant cohorts won’t point out is that the IG report really has some particularly stunning revelations.
Below are just three:
- James Comey signed off on a FISA request that failed to mention that the Steele Dossier was funded by the Hillary Clinton campaign. (Oops, they forgot to mention that credibility-eroding fact.)
- No FBI investigator ever mentioned that Steele was a serial liar and self-aggrandizing boaster with a known bias against Donald Trump. He admitted that he was “desperate that [Trump] not get elected.”
- Steele’s source admitted that Steele had misstated or exaggerated his information. It all came from “word of mouth and hearsay” during beer-drinking sessions. The FBI assured the FISA judges this sub-source corroborated Steele’s bogus dossier. They clearly knew otherwise.
The report goes on and on and shows over and over how the FBI invented probable cause to open an investigation. Their true target was Donald Trump, and James Comey lied to the President’s face about that motivation.
Comey’s lie cost him his job. He is now like a taller version of President Jimmy Carter tweeting and traipsing around cable news shows trying to convince everyone he was a credible FBI director.
So, the IG gave the deep state the political cover it was seeking. Attorney General Barr knows better and recognizes a whitewash when he sees it. Underneath the whitewash are the facts that could ultimately result in someone, finally, being held accountable.
