President Trump Says Kamala Harris Got “Too Much Credit” for Attack on Joe Biden at Democratic Presidential Debate

For conservatives, the first Democratic presidential debate likely served as extra motivation to head to the polls in 2020 to vote for President Donald J. Trump. The highly anticipated, two-night event illustrated how far to the left the Democratic Party has veered.

Since the debate debacle, political commentators and analysts alike have been picking winners and losers. The mainstream media has lauded U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) for her vicious takedown of former Vice President Joe Biden (D-DE). However, President Trump, wasn’t too impressed.

According to Breitbart, on June 29, 2019, Trump proclaimed Harris was given “too much credit” for attacking Biden at the debate. The President offered his opinion on the matter at a news conference at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

Trump also said Harris “probably” went after the former Vice President harder than he deserved. Politico reported that the President commented, “I think she was given too much credit for what she did. It wasn’t that outstanding. I think probably he was hit harder than he should have been hit.”

When someone inquired if Harris would be a tough election opponent, the President remarked, “you never know.” He went on to say, “You never know who’s going to be tough. You never know.”

Trump added, “I think she’s getting far too much credit for what she said. It was right out of the can. It was right out of the box. He didn’t respond great. This is not Winston Churchill we’re dealing with, but it wasn’t nearly as bad as they pretend it to be.”

Breitbart noted that Harris utilized her attack against Biden during the debate as a springboard for the launch of her “that little girl was me” rallying cry. The California Senator relayed a story about how her neighbors wouldn’t allow their kids to play with her due to her race.

Harris revealed that she didn’t believe Biden was a racist. But, she excoriated the former Vice President for his opposition to busing.

So, what exactly did the Senator say? Harris remarked, “I’m going to now direct this at Vice President Biden, I do not believe you are a racist, and I agree with you when you commit yourself to the importance of finding common ground. But I also believe, and it’s personal — and I was actually very — it was hurtful to hear you talk about the reputations of two United States senators who built their reputations and career on the segregation of race in this country. And it was not only that, but you also worked with them to oppose busing.”

The Senator added, “And, you know, there was a little girl in California who was part of the second class to integrate her public schools, and she was bused to school every day. And that little girl was me. So I will tell you that, on this subject, it cannot be an intellectual debate among Democrats. We have to take it seriously. We have to act swiftly.”

Inquiring of Biden directly, Harris asked, “Vice President Biden, do you agree today — do you agree today that you were wrong to oppose busing in America then? Do you agree?”

Before defending his backing of the Equal Rights Amendment, ERA, the former Vice President maintained, “I did not oppose busing in America. What I opposed is busing ordered by the Department of Education. That’s what I opposed.” Biden also stated, “I supported the ERA from the very beginning. I’m the guy that extended the Voting Rights Act for 25 years.”

According to Breitbart, the California Senator’s campaign had been planning this very attack on the former Vice President for “months.” She was just waiting for the right public forum to do it in.

While President Trump wasn’t awe-struck with Harris’ debate performance, at least one prominent Republican was. According to Fox News, during an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation” days after the Democrat Party debates Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said of Harris, “She’s got game. She is very talented, she’s very smart, and she’ll be a force to be reckoned with.”

While praising Harris’ debate efforts, Graham cautioned that it’s too early in the game to count Biden out. He commented, “I think you will underestimate Joe Biden at your own peril.”
