If you haven’t seen any clips from the Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government hearing on the “Twitter Files” this week, you owe it to yourself to do so. It’s shocking to see how incredibly nasty, vile and hateful the venomous Democrat Party has come.
That party really has changed dramatically, even from when Barack Obama was in office. We’ve never seen Democrats attack both the First Amendment and liberal journalists so viciously as the just did Michael Shellenberger and Matt Taibbi.
If you’ve been following the release of the Twitter Files, than you probably know that most of the federal government, especially the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security, have set up a massive censorship apparatus that it’s been using against the American people. Most of the censorship is one-directional and aimed at conservative Trump supporters. We know from the Twitter Files that the federal government was spending $74 million per year in taxpayer money… to censor taxpayers.
This shouldn’t be a Left-Right issue at all. It should just be an American issue. Every Democrat in Congress should be just as alarmed as every Republican. But the Democrats are not.
Wait, weren’t Democrats the ones who were supposed to be interested in defending the First Amendment? It turns out that they probably never were. Democrats like freedom of speech when it involves burning the flag or producing child porn. But when free speech is used to expose the illegal actions of the Democrats in The Swamp, they act like crazy people who want to line us all up in front of a wall and shoot us.
One of the craziest people in the hearings was someone named Delegate Stacey Plaskett, the Democrat who represents the people of the US Virgin Islands. She called Shellenberger and Taibbi “so-called journalists.” Both men are award-winning, bestselling authors, independent reporters, and liberals. Plaskett continually hurled insults at them, claiming that they had “cherry picked” the Twitter/FBI censorship documents that they’ve revealed so far.
Plaskett constantly interrupted Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who was chairing the hearing. How did this lady become the Democrats’ Ranking Member on this subcommittee? She doesn’t even understand how committee rules work, and she definitely despises the First Amendment. Plaskett was one of a group of Democrats who all demanded that Shellenberger and Taibbi reveal their sources publicly.
This is literally one of the first things they used to teach kids in social studies class in elementary school. Journalists have a First Amendment right to protect the identity of their sources, especially when reporting bombshell information about the government. And Plaskett doesn’t know this basic fact of how America works, or what Americans’ rights are under our system? She should be deported back to the Virgin Islands for the way she made a mockery of this hearing.
Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-TX) was equally nasty and vicious. She tried multiple times to get Matt Taibbi to reveal his sources for this story. Fortunately, this isn’t Taibbi’s first rodeo. He stood his ground and steadfastly refused to throw his sources under the bus to protect himself. It was one of the most ethical and courageous things we’ve seen on television in some time.
Almost every Democrat who questioned the journalists demanded to know who their sources were. They don’t seem to even understand that we have a First Amendment anymore. Or they don’t care.
As Michael Shellenberger said in his remarks, “I never thought that in my own country that freedom of speech would be threatened in this way. It’s just frightening when you get into it.”
It’s more than frightening. It’s downright terrifying, knowing that the Democrat Party can send their shock troops from the FBI to rip your life apart just for being a Republican.
This needs urgent correction. These people are sick, and they really, really hate our rights and freedoms as America. If you’ve ever wondered how the Soviet Union or the Chi-Coms could kill so many millions of their fellow citizens, start taking notes. We’re watching the early stages of that right now.
The entire hearing is worth watching, but here is just one of the tense clips from it. Watch as a total crook named Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) attacks Matt Taibbi, and then wait for the fireworks between Jim Jordan and Stacey Plaskett. Have you ever seen anything like this in a congressional hearing before?
