The Trump Supreme Court is about to Lift All Bans on Semiautomatic Rifles

We know that gun rights are not top-of-mind for most Americans right now. The economy, the border, inflation, Joe Biden’s stupid wars in Ukraine and Sudan, high gas prices and other stuff are on our minds. But since we are in the presidential election season, some are talking about firearms.

Democrats, of course, want to ban all of them so they can hurt you for disagreeing with them. But which Republican is the best choice to preserve the Second Amendment? We already know the answer, and this is going to be huge news for many Americans.

The reason why we even looked into this situation is because the Never Back Down SuperPAC, which is deploying a $500 million war chest from out-of-touch Wall Street zillionaires to make Ron DeSantis the 2024 nominee, issued an incredibly stupid statement this week. Following Donald Trump’s triumphant CNN townhall, the Never Back Down SuperPAC issued a statement attacking the president.

The PAC’s Communications Director Erin Perrine stated:

“The CNN townhall was, as expected, over an hour of nonsense that proved Trump is stuck in the past. After 76 years, Trump still doesn’t know where he stands on important conservative issues like supporting life and the 2nd Amendment. How does that Make America Great Again?”

Well, Erin. Let’s chat!

Remember that group of 9 people that we call the Supreme Court? As president, Donald Trump appointed three of them whose names are Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Now that we have the first conservative majority on the Supreme Court in our lifetimes, they’ve already overturned Roe v. Wade. That should cover the “supporting life” issue.

And as for the 2nd Amendment, guess what?

That same Trump appointed Supreme Court is about to overturn 10 state bans on AR-15s and other semiautomatic rifles, as well as high-capacity magazines. This isn’t speculation. It’s going to happen any day now.

The case in question before the court is the National Association for Gun Rights v. City of Naperville. The gun rights organization and a gun store owner in Illinois are suing on the grounds that two Illinois laws violate the 2nd Amendment. The reason why people haven’t heard about this yet is because the case is on the court’s “shadow docket,” just as the case overturning Roe v. Wade was.

The Supreme Court has two dockets that it uses—the merit docket, and the shadow docket. Cases on the merit docket are usually the famous ones with recognizable names like Roe v. Wade or Brown v. Board of Education. Merit cases involve briefs and oral arguments and lots of media coverage.

Shadow docket cases don’t have all those bells and whistles and media spectacles associated with them. In these cases, the court will often simply announce a ruling on a case unexpectedly. Sometimes it’s not even clear which justices are in the majority and minority on these cases, because the decisions are so brief. The last high-profile shadow docket case was the Dobbs decision, overturning Roe v. Wade.

Right now, ten states have banned so-called “assault” weapons and high-capacity magazines. Once the court rules in favor of the plaintiffs, it will overturn all ten of those states’ bans.

Even more importantly, the decision will prevent all future sessions of Congress from passing any bill that bans AR-15s or high-capacity mags. Congress immediately began coming up with creative ways to start infringing the 2nd Amendment right after the Bill of Rights was ratified in 1791.

Once this decision is handed down, it will be the biggest and most significant victory for 2nd Amendment rights in 232 years. It is that important.

Everyone watching the court closely knows that this decision is a DONE DEAL. Chief Justice John Roberts is really leading the court in name only at this point. With Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito, along with Trump’s appointees Kavanaugh, Gorsuch and Barrett, there is nothing that the liberals on the court can do to stop it. The only question is when it will happen.

Electing Donald Trump for one term resulted in Roe v. Wade being overturned, and now it will result in the delivery of the greatest gun rights victory in centuries.
